Summary: Hawai‘i is a photo zine, a love letter to ‘āina, a collection of portraits. Shot on film across several Hawaiian Islands, it represents a journey by Native Hawaiian artist Shiloh Perkins to define his own sense of place. 

Pared down from a much larger body of work, Hawaiʻi is also an exercise in restraint, sensitivity and reverence. Each photograph holds a memory and feeling inside of it that suggests a much deeper connection that Shiloh has to each place and person. 

We humbly thank Single Double and Hawai‘i Theatre for their support of this project through the Single Double community residency space, which hosted Shiloh Perkins in 2023 and Tropic Editions in 2023-2024 (“Studio”). This launch of this zine coincides with the launch of an exhibition by the same name in this space.
