Summary: An expanded and reimagined version of the 2019 publication by the same name, Rainbow Hash [Redux] features a selection of postcards by artists Drew Kahu‘āina Broderick and Lawrence Seward. Reclaiming the genre of mail art through the context of Hawai‘i, as both a tropical island paradise and an illegally occupied nation, the artists altered and circulated postcards between Hawaiʻi and New York over the course of 2018. These postcards became the basis of an exhibition at Aupuni Space in 2019, Rainbow Hash, and are reproduced (at scale) for this publication. This expanded edition of Rainbow Hash also includes a loose leaf postcard by the artists, ready to be altered and mailed.

Rainbow Hash [Redux] highlights the creative collaborations Broderick and Seward have taken on over the last decade, as well as their ongoing friendship, though an edited, annotated transcript of a conversation between the artists. Weaving between shared thematics, visual languages, and critical and counter-institutional gestures, the artists reflect on what it means to negotiate their identity as artists, arts organizers and community members within the arts ecosystems of their island home, Hawai‘i.
